How To Increase Your Closet Space in 1 Hour

It seems as if everyone has a need for more closet space. I guess that we all have more "stuff" than people back in the fifties had. When my wife and I go out and look at the new homes being built in our area we are astounded at the amount of closet space they contain. Do we really need to have that much storage space? According to my wife that was a real stupid question.

A few weeks ago my wife was complaining that she needed more closet space because she had run out of room to hang clothes. I should tell you that we have an eight foot wall closet and a small walk in closet in the master bedroom. She specifically asked me to clean out some of my clothes so she could hang her clothes in the space I'd vacated. Well I wasn't to keen on the idea, but I thought I'd take the path of least resistance and comply with her wishes.

After about 5 minutes it became clear to me that I had clothes in the closet that were about 10 years old and didn't fit anymore. I guess my expectation of losing a few pounds was not going to happen, even if it did I'm sure the styles were a bit dated. After about an hour I found that about 25 percent of my clothes that had been hanging in the closet were now in the "Goodwill" pile. Well I guess my wife was right about it after all. I was proud of the space I'd saved by just getting rid of the things I would never again wear. Then my wife informed me that she thought I could do better, because he need more space than I was able to clear.

My wife already controls about 75 percent of the closet space we have in our bedroom and I could not believe that there still wasn't enough space for her. In a moment of clarity that rarely comes, I asked her to sort through her clothes and determine which one's she never wears. Well I guess I had violated one of those sacred areas of a woman's life that is never to be questioned. After a few tense minutes I began asking her about specific items and asking just how long it had been since she had worn them. It took a little while, but it became clear to her that she too had items that could either be removed from her wardrobe and donated, or moved to another closet in the house until the appropriate season for wearing the article. In all we took a little over an hour and cleared quite a bit of space in the master bedroom closets. It was probably the most productive hour we have spent in a long time.
